The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride (DGR) is more than just a motorcycle event. It’s a global movement that brings together riders to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, especially prostate cancer and mental health. This year’s DGR ride in Plymouth was a vivid display of community, style, and purpose with over 100 riders signed up out of over 115,000 riders taking place in DGR rides all over the globe. It's a cool thing to be involved with but it also does a lot of good, not just as a fundraiser, but in bringing people together on the day that have never met before - what a vibe!
The Gathering: A Visual Welcome
With the Half Marathon dominating the spotlight in Plymouth on Sunday 17th May the organisers opted for a late afternoon slot. Classic bikes, modern machines, and custom builds stood side by side, creating a striking scene amongst the historic building's of Plymouth's Barbican district. The atmosphere was electric, filled with anticipation and friendly chatter and plenty of eyes to the skies wondering whether the rain would hold off. Almost on cue, it chucked it down, but fortunately the rain left as quickly as it arrived and with the roads quickly drying the ride set off with no major issues.
The Ride Through Plymouth
Plymouth is a perfect back drop for classic motorcycles, and those with a little more modern metal. Retro Triumph and Royal Enfield thumping through The Barbican got plenty of people excited with waves and smiles and even a few people asking how they can get involved next year - one person even asking for tips on doing their CBT!

Supporting a Cause
The DGR ride is a fundraiser, so whilst riders may normally be looking for an opportunity to stretch the legs of their motorcycle today was all about unity for a good cause. The 16 mile loop around edge of the city and out to the coast was gentle and fun, great views and a good laugh. Then it was all back to Rockets & Rascals for a low alcohol beer, some ripping blues music from Russ Sinclair and tales for the trails!
Riders so far have raised over £2K on the Plymouth ride, if you'd like to make a donation then here's my link to the DGR Fundraiser
Here's the photos from the ride, if you came along it was great to meet you all and look out for an even bigger and better ride in 2027! All photos by @rob.ditch so make sure you give him a credit if you use them on Instagram.
